Heath Herringbone Crochet Mittens – FREE PATTERN

Keep warm in these modern herringbone stitch crochet mittens! These mitts are thick and cozy for those cold Winter months. You can make baby, toddler, kids, or adult size mittens with these instructions. The pattern is beginner-intermediate level thanks to the video tutorial and step by step pictures that are included. The mittens work up quickly thanks to Lion Brand’s Wool Ease Thick & Quick super bulky yarn . . these would be a great project to sell in your shop or give as a last minute gift!  Scroll down for the free instructions or purchase an inexpensive downloadable PDF from Etsy HERE or Ravelry HERE!

This pattern pairs perfectly with the Heath Herringbone Crochet Hat pattern (available HERE).  In fact, if you haven’t made the hat already I would suggest starting there because the construction is more basic and therefore is an easier way to try out the Herringbone Single Crochet stitch before diving into this mitten pattern.  The hat pattern also makes baby to adult sizes so you can make this Winter set for anyone in your family or on your friend list! 🙂

I knew from experimentation that this herringbone stitch looks best in a thick yarn.  Using Lion Brand Yarn’s Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick® for this project was a lot of fun.  It’s SO thick and soft!  The mittens work up crazy quickly with this super bulky acrylic/wool yarn combo.  I like that it comes in over 60 colors too . . sooo many possibilities!  You can purchase the yarn HERE (I used the color ‘Fisherman’).

Because these mittens are so thick, creating a thumb for the smallest size wasn’t possible.  So if you’re looking to make these for an infant keep in mind that the baby size has no thumb (which I think is actually a plus from what I can remember of trying to put mittens on my girls when they were babies haha).
